About us
Asiil
Asiil responds to a dual gap in post-conflict recovery: the absence of safe creative spaces and the lack of pathways from expression to livelihood.
The context
Conflict disrupts more than physical safety
Prolonged conflict strips away not only physical safety, but also the cultural fabric, creative outlets, and economic pathways through which individuals discover who they are and what they can contribute to the world.
Whilst humanitarian responses rightly prioritise shelter, food, and protection, a persistent gap remains in supporting the emotional, expressive, and aspirational dimensions of recovery.
Creative recovery
Arts-based support can become a durable pathway
Creative and expressive psychosocial interventions can improve mental health and aid healing for those affected by humanitarian crises. Evidence links engagement with the arts to reduced symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and depression, alongside improved emotional regulation and social cohesion.
Yet arts-based interventions in post-conflict settings remain predominantly short-term and fragmented, rarely building pathways toward sustained skills development or livelihoods.
